Hiding on the Back
One of my favorite things to see when when examining a piece of art is actually the back! From works on canvas, to steel sculptures, to ceramic and glass pieces, you never know what you might find. For cataloging and provenance purposes, making sure to note what an artist, gallery, or museum left behind is very important. Of course there are plenty of unsigned, unmarked, and unknown pieces that leave me disappointed while cataloging, but when I do find information that the owner did not previously have... I become elated! So, a note to living artists, sign your work, even if it's on the back.
